Used to? Deep down.

We were caught on fire by the words that shot us down.

We were lit by the flame you sent around.
Your tears are shattering to the floor.
And I promise, I won't hear your screaming anymore.

There was a feeling you were roping up the moon.
You slit open the stars and drank them until noon.
He stole the silver from your bones.
Your blank shadow trails along dark traffic cones.

Savor your footsteps and wait for the call.
In the darkest room of the longest night, alone I felt so small.
I promised and warned and scolded.
You've taken this to your broken heart, that I long ago once molded.

Pushed off the bridge that overlooks the water.
She said she jumped, I called her to the alter.
A false judgement call, A wave of His hand.
To the desert she's taken, to be buried in the sand.

The pattern of your delicate fingers,
The way your voice silently lingers,
The stare in the dark that shoots down a man.
You say you can't, I know you can.
